Lost Roof in Norwood, Mass.

No one wants to lose a roof on a fire. We try our best to get the fire out. At the beginning of this video it seems as though the fire could be put out and the structure is not too far gone. However, we don’t know what happened before the video and we arent’ there. There is a chance they were working inside and things went south. Then there is also the possibility that the structure was unsafe to fight fire in. Either way, I cannot see any firefighters come out of the structure so I take it they weren’t in there.

Back to the video, the fire quickly takes a hold of the attic and vents itself.

I hate fires like this, especially if it is a three story with attic. We win some and we lose some.

The structure apperars to be balloon frame balloon frame construction. There were firefighters in the building. you could see the firefighers handlights on the 2nd floor area. The evacaution signal was sounded at 4:23 into the video. As the Crtic stated.. we win some, we lose some.. and some are lost even before we pull up on scene.. my FD had one of theose situations at our last structure fire.

The one thing that grinds my gears is the wailing of the PASS device in the background.. at it goes on for a good 4 to 5 minutes… then another one goes off…

We as firefighters should not treat a sounding PASS device like a car alarm… complacency kills.

You can see firefighters entering the structure on the B side via the aerial. There are also hose lines going through the front door..

Great example of why we need to THROW LADDERS!
