Badge Vs. Badge…oh AND Badge Vs. Badge Ring Girls!

no, not exactly badge bunnies like you are thinking….a little bit different, read on.

Badge vs. Badge is the only organization where Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters can fight for a sanctioned State, USA Title, and be ranked under the IAB, International Amateur Boxing. [according to their site]

The boxers are law enforcement and firefighters. This is apparently open to all LEO and Firefighters across the US.

For the most part, it appears as though the fights are set on the West Coast. The next event is May 14th, 2011 at the Sacremento Radisson.

Follow them – BadgevsBadge.comFacebook - Twitter - Youtube

If only Dave Statter were still a firefighter…I think I could take him!

The web site also states: All Badge Vs. Badge boxing events are sanctioned with the International Amateur Boxing Organization. This will include official World Wide rankings for Law Enforcement and Fire and Championship Belts and Titles in each weight class.

and now for the Badge Bunnies Ring Girls!

24/7 Student of the Fire Service Blog – Monday Morning Shoutout

This weeks Monday Morning Shoutout goes to a new blog I found titled “24/7 Student of the Fire Service“.

The blog states “Not a T-Shirt Guy’s Blog (Protected by the First Amendment)”

I like what I read…I think this blog will gain some traction. This is a newer blog on the scene. Check it out.

The blog is run by BLANE2469. I am not sure if he offers his real name, but it wouldn’t be hard to figure it out…so I won’t use it just for sake of me not being the one to out him.

Here are some pointers on the blog (not that he asked, but I feel the need to help out).

  • The black text on purple background is not that easy to read.
  • Lose the auto-play songs. If I want to listen to it, I will hit play. This could be awkward for someone going to your site while at work behind a desk.
  • See if you can’t go to a wider layout. Most people don’t use 600 wide layouts anymore. This makes more content for less scrolling.
  • Go ahead and get the domain http://studentofthefireservice.com to replace the longer http://studentofthefireservice.blogspot.com/ (all you have to do is forward the domain to your blogspot.com address. $10 a year max.

Just a couple of suggestions….and can be used for anyone starting a blog!

Keep up the great work!

A Couple of Short Clips from Indianapolis…The Wild Beaver and the FOOLS Bash

I finally got around to uploading a couple of videos to youtube. Don’t worry guys, I am not after your jobs if you do video!

Below you will find a short clip of the bartenders dancing at the Wild Beaver. We stopped in only briefly this trip because I wanted to broaden Willie’s horizons. We were there early and they got up on the bar and danced a little. Later, when there are more bartenders, they get up and do a choreographed dance…I have to admit, it is pretty cool.

If you are in Indy, be sure to check this bar out!

The other video is only a portion of the pipes and drums playing at the FOOLS Brotherhood Bash. They sounded awesome!

Who is The Next Fire Service Leader?

For some time…and at FDIC…the question was posed on who is the next fire service leader….

Who is the next Brunacini, the next Dunn, the next Brennan…

This question was posed by some almost as if they were looking at me… I do feel certain that if they were looking at me, they were looking for the answer to the question…not looking at me to take on the role. I have never carried myself, sold myself, or even thought of myself as a fire service leader. I am not that guy…not right now. I have too much too learn and too little time to learn it in.

Why are they looking to my generation to see who the leaders will be? To be clear, my generation is not the youngest in the fire service. I can relate to the newest bunch, but I am not one of them…although I probably look it!

Maybe my generation is the one who should be pumping out fire service leaders…

So how do we find them, cultivate them, give them a hand up?

What about the “elephant in the room”. The one that reared its ugly head at FDIC. The “exclusivity” elephant. The one who has to have all or nothing from the individual “fire service leader”.

I don’t want to harp on this too long, but us “individuals” make our name by spreading ourselves out among the masses. Not by being owned or maintained by a single entity. We go with what works for us and we make the best of it.

We do much of the work on our own and enjoy sharing it with magazines, web sites, and blogs to spread the message. Everyone wins. What we don’t want is to be tattooed with a company who thinks they owe/own us.

So who will be the next?

You? Me (doubt that)? Him? Her?

It will be whomever applies themselves to making change, sticks to their guns, and overall wants to move ahead!

I have an idea of some whom I think might be the next leaders…we will just have to see what the future holds.

Just for Laughs…Firefighters Get the Last Laugh on Candid Camera

These firefighters get the last laugh on some unsuspecting bystanders in this “candid camera” type clip.

Watch  below:

Often we “get away” with doing things wrong for so long that we accept that way of operating.

The title to this post is a direct quote from a recent article on Backstep Firefighter about the LODD 3 years ago in Colerain Township, Ohio.

Read Dave LeBlanc’s take on the incident and Niosh report here.

Those are powerful words…

…Often we “get away” with doing things wrong for so long that we accept that way of operating.

FEMS…It is that Damn Funny!

No disrespect to my DCFD brothers and sisters….but I had to…

What the hell is up with FEMS. Am I the only firefighter laughing my ASS off at that Chief up there. You know…the Chief of FEMS. WTF? Who the hell would name their department FEMS? Is this a sick joke? Maybe it was an early April Fools Joke?

FEMS must have plenty of money to just change everything to FEMS. The word FEMS almost sounds like a FEMSing cuss word.

FEMS…I am still FEMSing laughing. Seriously…I am chuckling right now. I am probably not the only one. FEMS.

It is that damn funny. FEMS

Is this a FEMSing case study on how to be hated by your whole FEMSing department in record FEMSing timing.

Does anyone love the new name FEMS? I would FEMSing love to hear from you! I am FEMSing serious!

Who has acronyms for this? I am sure there are some good ones out there!

Fire EMS…That is what it stands for right? Thats it? Just FEMS. We don’t need anything else? Wasn’t the name change to better describe WHO the DCFD is and what they do? Now it is just FEMS…We know it is Fire EMS, but we don’t know where.

OR

Am I the only one who relates the term FEMS to Feminine and Femanist.

Is it an all female department? The FEMS? I am pretty sure there are plenty of great firemen up there. Maybe the men feel left out.

Maybe we are only days away from a lawsuit stating the men feel left out and feel as though the name should be MASFEMS or FEMSMAS (is that an all female holiday?)

Is the headquarters called FEMDOM? Isn’t that a porn reference? Google it if you don’t believe me.

I could go on all night long…

Seriously, DCFD just wasn’t cutting it anymore? DCFD…I am not laughing at you, I feel for you. I certainly hope that someone has some sense to stop the nonsense!
