You aren’t alone…your department more than likely is not 100%. 50% might even be a dream these days for some of you guys.
Check out this video showcasing some of the shortcomings of Fire/EMS service in Corpus Christi, Texas. Look at the numbers and relate them to your service levels.
I can tell you this. They have 400k population according to the video…17 firehouses and 10 medic units. We have under 100k and we have 11 firehouses and 8 medic units.

Geez, we have 100k population with 5 stations, 5 engines and 1 ladder. Down to 70 FFs, will be down to 60 by attrition in the next year. Will probably end up down to 5 companies. We have 7 laid off, 12 more on SAFER, and the junior guy working has 8 years on.
Compare all that to Detroit-closing 20-26 companies a day due to manpower.
