Fire Videos Around the World From Cleveland to Houston & Thailand to Canada and More!

This is a bit of a long post…and it involves plenty of video. I got in front of the computer searching for what fires were caught on video and uploaded to Youtube…and I found a ton!

There is also a great video about the Mayday, Rescue, and Rescesutation of a Lt. in Columbus, Ohio at Paul Hasenmeier’s blog “Pass the Training & Tradition Blog”. The video describes what happened when Lt. Mike Polaski went down at a bread and butter house fire in Columbus. It occured in the basement and firefighters were quick to put their training into action and rescue one of their own. The fruits of their training and labor is that Mike survived the event. Great job guys!

I am actually sitting here working at ole #13 on C-shift. I am paying back another guy for working for him. I am sitting right next to Captain Willie Wines Jr. and we are having a great time! I even made him a cake for his 20th anniversary on the department. I made him  a cake with a bunny rabbit on it. The messed up thing is that I only put one ear on the rabbit. Willie, with the sick mind that he has, thinks it was actually something else. I just don’t see how he thought I would put that on his cake! I mean really, what kind of person does he think I am?

Now, on to the videos!

Here is a house fire (or a row of houses on fire maybe) on Fox Street in Gillingham (which is in Kent…somewhere in the UK)

This fire occured outside of Seattle. This was teh second fire in this house and it was still being rebuilt/remodeled after the first fire. Fire destroyed a home early Friday morning in Lynnwood, the second time the house was gutted by fire in less than a year.Snohomish Co. Fire District #1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said crews were called to the home in the 14700 block of Manor Way about 5:20 a.m. and the house was already engulfed in

UK Rap Fire Prevention Song: Good or Bad Investment

Check out the story and video below. The West Midlands Fire Service spent around $8000 (US) for two rappers to create “The Fire Song”. Now it has some people thinking they spent too much. Some are citing frivolous spending in a slow economy.

I think that $8000 is a drop in the bucket. If any fire department wants to get down to spending there are so many other things to point fingers at.

The song may not be extremely appealing to me, but it does have a good message and I think it should be used as much as possible. The song already has over 7000 views on youtube. Let’s just hope they do some ideal marketing on this one to get their moneys worth!

As for the product, production, song, and subsequent video I think they got their moneys worth!

From FireRescue1.com:

WEST MIDLANDS, England — A city councillor has claimed a rap song highlighting the importance of fire safety was too expensive.

West Midlands Fire Service has spent pounds 5,000 — almost $8,000 — of taxpayers money on The Fire Song which it hopes will become an internet hit.

It cost a total of pounds 10,000 to produce with the other half raised through grants.

Birmingham-based Corey ‘SMan’ Campbell was joined by fellow rapper Nigel Hinds on the safety-conscious song. Film director Daniel Alexander produced the video.

Puff, Puff, Pass Cannibas Goes up in Smoke

The youtube video below states: House fire in cannabis factory Sutton Surrey

The title of the video is “Drugs up in smoke”

Do they make a parachute big enough to fit over a house? If so, you could sell tickets for a couple minutes under the parachute and make bank. It seems to me that there is a lot of smoke and no bitch (as Tommy Gavin would say) Ha.

Needless to say, if you took a minute to put on your mask, you would probably get pretty hungry by the time you found the seat of the fire!

New Video from Camberwell Fire in England

The Fire Critic first reported this incident here. Apparently, some newer footage has been released on the incident included below. I noticed some interesting things in the video, the most interesting being the car sitting on its side. It appears as though firefighters turned a car over to provide space for a ladder truck to set up its outriggers. There is a report here of an extended amount of time getting to the people trapped on the upper floors. I doubt it took that long, but I am sure that it took a little while to get up to them after setting everything up.

A brigade spokesman said that they had sent eighteen fire engines and nine rescue units. One firefighter was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.

“We gained access to the building as soon as we got there,” he said. “The time it took to reach the top of the building was simply the result of the firefighting operation. They progressed as quickly as they could.”

Building Construction Questioned in Deadly Flat Fire

Officials are questioning the design of a 12 story flat in England. The building sustained a fire recently that killed 6 people. In all, 30 people were rescued and 120 others were evacuated. It is unclear on how many units there are in the building, but it is clear that they all share 1 staircase.

The first thing that comes to mind is Billy Goldfeder’s favorit saying “WTF”. However, I am sure that there are many buildings across the globe that have similar building design. That does NOT make it ok though. The people who died had little chance for survival.

I guess we can hope that lessons are learned and that EXPERIENCE will provide stricter building codes to keep this tragedy from happening again.

The report and photo (right) are from a BBC News Article: Safety questions after flat fire.

There is video available at the link above during the fire.

More than 100 firefighters tackled the incident, some of who suffered from heat exhaustion, he added.

Resident Carol Cooper, 38, who lives on the seventh floor, described “seeing people and children waving for help”.

She added that the tenants had called for the block to be demolished two or three years ago – but had been told it was a listed building, and had to be preserved.

Southwark council’s executive member for housing, Kim Humphries, said the tower block had undergone a £3m refurbishment programme two years ago.

This is understood to have included fitting new windows and electrical cabling.

Making the most of blogging

How’s about another Shrimp on the Barbie?

In a couple of months, two bloggers will be working together at each others jobs. One is a Firefighter and Paramedic on an Engine company  in San Fransisco (The Happy Medic) and the other is a Paramedic for the North East Ambulance Service (Medic999). You might ask Northeast what? Well I assure you it is not Northeast San Fransisco. It is actually in England somewhere…I am guessing in the Northeast but I wasn’t able to pinpoint the location.

After almost a year of hounding each other with questions, they have come up with this ingenious idea that brings blogging to a new level. I have been blogging a while with other sites but never talked anyone into doing a tv show about me.

Exactly how far away are these two bloggers? Something like 5400 miles…so far that google maps cannot give you driving or walking directions.

These two bloggers have somehow curtailed the BBC into doing a television show on their journey. Medic999 will travel with BBC crews to San Fran and ride with The Happy Medic, then once Medic999 gets sick of riding the medic truck like all of the other Medics in our Country he will take The Happy Medic back to England to ride the ambulance there. Medic999 is apparently interested in how The Happy Medic can multitask on the Engine as a Firefighter and Paramedic as well.

Apparently The Happy Medic doesn’t know how good he has it being a FF/PM on the engine (“fire lorry” for those across the pond) that he really wants to see what socialized health care looks like it prior to President Obama making it reality here in the States.

Ok, so I added a little sarcasm in there for effect.

I am actually looking forward to watching this on the television (for you guys across the pond that is tele). There is even a chance of a continued series if the first one is a hit.

Read about the “project” on The Happy Medic here and Medic999 here.

Now if I can just figure out how to translate this into english for my friends across the pond…
